This artwork is also known as “Fiddler on The Roof”. The lower part of the piece is Chagall’s memories of his hometown Videsk as can be seen by the Shabbat Candles and fish platter. The flowers portray the modern world with the angels playing music rather than the fiddler. The marriage is symbolic of Chagall’s attempt to bring the two worlds together.
